First Church’s Discipleship Plan
As we pursue our church's vision...Raising disciples of Jesus Christ, we equip and nurture individuals who love and serve one another and carry life to everyone they meet. We are a joy-filled people, united in Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and committed to spiritual maturity.
Offering Classes for:
- enrichment
- empowerment
- transformation
- fellowship
Our intent is to offer discipleship classes, seminars and encounter experiences that will equip First Church disciples in the full range of core discipleship competencies. We believe that there are essential skills and knowledge that every disciple needs. We consider these core competencies.
Opportunities will be offered in a three-year cycle on a rotating basis. Key courses will be offered more frequently. Our Sunday morning
"A 'Class' Act", will initially be the primary time frame for these basic classes to make them available to the most people.
Enrichment opportunities will offer an additional tier of equipping beyond the core competencies. These will include special topics such as biblical approaches to parenting, managing our finances, and marriage as well as in-depth Bible study.
Discipleship Classes to include:
- Boundaries
- Identity in Christ
- Becoming a Contagious Christian
- Basic Doctrines
- Spiritual Disciplines
- Bible Survey
- How to Study/Read the Bible
- Membership Class
Ministry Experiences & Hands-On Training will include:
- Prayer Ministry Weekends
- Encounter Weekends
Other Special Events
- Teaching Seminars on Discipleship topics
Most classes will be offered in a 6-8 week format.
Regular attendance will be important to receive a certificate of completion.
Other Equipping Opportunities:
Discipleship Classes in Small Groups
- Small groups in the church may choose to complete a Discipleship Class together as a part of their small group meetings.
- New small groups may organize for the purpose of completing one or more Discipleship Classes.
Enrichment Opportunities
- New classes may form as an interest is identified and leadership rises up.
- Existing small groups and Bible studies provide a variety of enrichment opportunities.
